Financial Red Flags That Could Hold Your Business Back

Let’s be honest — no one loves spotting problems in their business. But ignoring financial warning signs is like ignoring a weird rattle in your car — it doesn’t end well.

Here are a few red flags to keep an eye on.

  1. Cashflow Crunch
Running out of cash is the biggest reason small businesses fail. If you’re always waiting for invoices to be paid so you can pay your own bills — it’s time to tighten up your credit control.

  2. High Staff Turnover
People leaving regularly? It’s expensive and disruptive. Could be cashflow, could be culture — either way, it hits your bottom line.

  3. No Financial Forecasts
If you can’t see what’s coming, you can’t plan. Regular forecasting is a must — not a ‘nice to have’.

  4. Growing Expenses, Flat Revenue
Costs creeping up while your income stays still? Red flag. Find the leaks and fix them fast.

How to Fix Them
  • Get better at chasing payments

  • Review overheads

  • Forecast cashflow quarterly

  • Talk to your accountant (that’s me)

Spot the red flags early and you’ll have a far better chance of steering clear of trouble.
